Mondrianum Featured in Garr Reynolds's "Presentation Zen Design"

We were gladly surprised to learn from Jedi Lin, a friend of ours, that our free Kuler plug-in for Mac, Mondrianum, is featured on Garr Reynolds’s new book, Presentation Zen Design (page 90, picture credit Jedi Lin). And we’d like to share with you this little surprise.

TapExpense 2.4 and 2.4.1

January 17th, 2010

We had been working on TapExpense 2.4 and then 2.4.1 in the December that’s just passed. We are gladly surprised to learn that Apple has sped up its review process, and TapExpense 2.4 then 2.4.1 has become available in very short period of time (2.4.1 was submitted on January 6, and was approved on January 8, Taipei Time).

Here are what’s new, what’s fixed and what’s changed in TapExpense 2.4 and 2.4.1:

2.4.1

This version expands decimal place support and fixes a number of bugs.

  • Supports the third decimal place. By default all major currencies still use the second decimal place, but it is now possible to set a currency to use the third decimal place. This can help calculate things such as reimbursement at a fixed rate or mileage-related expenses.
  • The second decimal place is now the default when creating a new currency.
  • Fixes the bug that “Disallow Empty Entry” setting never really worked.
  • Fixes the bug that, when the report had a breakdown by group, tapping a report item (such as a category) with no group could list entries in other groups. The bug also happened to breakdowns in payment instrument or vendor/income source.
  • Fixes some minor UI issues when deleting an item in a list.

2.4

This version adds one new feature and has two user interface improvements.

  • Browse and edit entries within a given criterion. It is now possible to view all expense items of a given category, group, vendor or payment instrument. Go to the Report tab, tap on any report item, and a new entry browser will pop up.
  • Day of week display. Day of week is now displayed in each day section of the monthly entries.
  • Day of week prompt when picking a date. When setting a date for an entry, day of week is displayed beneath the date picker.

TapExpense 2.3.1

December 19th, 2009

TapExpense 2.3.1 is a minor upgrade that fixes the European decimal point bug when performing calculation with the calculator keypad (not just merely entering the amount). We’ve also submitted 2.4 (with added features) to Apple for their review. Thank you all for the suggestions and feedback!

Mondrianum 2.3 Works with 64-bit Apps

September 14th, 2009

We have just released Mondrianum 2.3. This version is identical to 2.2, plus that it now works with 64-bit apps that come with Snow Leopard. We’re happy that our color picker has now made its transition into the 64-bit world. Let us know if it does indeed work with your 64-bit apps!

TapExpense 2.3

August 10th, 2009

TapExpense 2.3 is now available on the App Store. For the past few weeks we have been tidying up the code, and we’re happy to say 2.3 works perfectly on both iPhone and iPod Touch (all models) on OS 3.0. (Not that the previous version didn’t, but there were a few UI wrinkles that we wanted to iron out, and we did).

Here’s what’s new in 2.3:

  • Calculator keypad. This has been one of the most frequently requested features, and we now have a calculator built into TapExpense. The simple keypad is still the default—go to the Tools tab, and use the “Numeric Keypad Type” setting to switch between the two keypads. We believe this is very helpful when you’re sharing bill with friends, or when you’re traveling in countries where people pay tips.
  • Landscape mode can be now disabled. This is another frequently requested option. Some people even suggest that Apple should have a global setting on this—because not everyone loves the landscape mode when they’re reading on bed!
  • There is a new report grouping type called “(Payment) Instrument, then Category”. With this grouping type, it’s easy to see how much you have spent on each payment instruments (credit cards from different banks, for example), and on what.

And we have fixed these bugs in 2.3:

  • XLS Export’s date problem. Some of us have noticed that the exported spreadsheets can sometimes have wrong dates—all of them exactly one day later than the saved date. That was caused by a miscommunication between the client-side and server-side code of our exporting mechanism, and is now fixed.
  • Currency converter bug when in European locales. Our currency converter didn’t behave well when TapExpense was run in an European locale that uses comma (“,”) as the decimal point. European locales worked otherwise well in other parts of our app—it now works anywhere in TapExpense.

Finally, we have made a few adjustments in the user-interface. Before, for example, when we wanted to edit an entry’s cateogry, the category list didn’t “jump” to the chosen category right away, therefore requiring some scrolling on our part. Now TapExpense always shows you the currently chosen item in the list (category, currency, group, and so on). There are a few other minute fine-tunings like this. The “Settings” button in the Report tab was too misleading (many of our users didn’t realize they could use customized date range—not just by month—with that), therefore we now have renamed to “More”.

That’s TapExpense 2.3. We’ll keep working to make it work better for you. As always, let us know if you run into any problem, or if you have suggestions—write to us at: service at lithoglyph dot com. Thanks for the waiting!
